Disiu Bistrot – Malamuri Spritz & Pittura

If I could, I would honestly go to this place every single week.

Finding Disiu Bistrot (located at Vico Santa Lucia) was one of the absolute highlights of my stay. One of the best things about Gela is that it doesn’t really have “tourist restaurants”,everything here serves the locals, so you know you are getting a genuine experience. Disiu Bistrot nailed it with their event called “Malamuri: Spritz & Pittura” (Spritz & Painting), which is the perfect mix of creativity and local flavor.

The Experience: The concept is so simple but so fun.

For €20 per person, you get a ceramic painting workshop mixed with a unique aperitivo.The moment you sit down with your brushes and paint palette, your mind just completely switches off. You forget about your phone or daily worries, and you just focus entirely on creating something with your hands. The staff is absolutely lovely and welcoming, which makes the whole evening feel even better.

Rotating Themes: A New Sicilian Story

What makes it really cool is that they change things up constantly. They have so many different thematic concepts rooted in Sicilian culture, so you have to watch their website or social media for updates on what they are doing next. You paint blank ceramic pieces and take them home as a completely authentic souvenir.

The iconic “Lapa” (Ape Truck): The three-wheeled trucks you see driving around Sicily. The famous Sicilian ceramic heads (Testa di Moro) Classic Italian Vespa scooters

The Twist: Fun Themes and the Aperitivo

They do really fun stuff because whenever they can, they match the aperitivo to the theme you are painting! It doesn’t happen every single week, but when it does, it adds a really cool touch to the night.For example, when the theme was the Ape truck, it was so much fun to see a real Ape truck arrive right in the middle of the painting session. They actually served us traditional “Brioche con Gelato” straight from the back of it! Another time, when the theme was fish ceramics, seafood was the topic for the food. Whatever the theme is, you always get a classic Spritz, Prosecco, or a cocktail to sip on while you work. Because the theme changes, it’s always a fun surprise,so keep an eye out on their updates!

Why You Have to Go

If you are staying in Gela and want to hang out where the locals go for a great night, you need to go to this workshop. Just make sure you book well in advance because spots are limited and it fills up fast! It’s a weekly promise of laughs, art, and a great atmosphere. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t a good artist,the whole point is just to relax, enjoy the vibe, and bring a piece of genuine Sicily home with you.
