Pizzarium

I first went to Pizzarium in Gela last year, and I already remembered it as one of the best pizzas in the city.

Back then, the location was different. There were only a few tables inside, with more space in a sort of little courtyard. I really liked the atmosphere there, especially the decoration with the umbrellas hanging above.

This year I went back and found them in a new location. The little courtyard is gone, but there is much, much more space inside now. Personally, I actually prefer it this way. In the middle of a hot Gela summer, give me a nice air-conditioned room instead of sweating outside while eating my pizza!

The new place is modern, spacious and nicely decorated, but of course the main reason I came back was the pizza.

Last year I said it was one of the best in Gela. This year I have to change that: for me, right now, it is my number one pizza in town.

The base, the tomato sauce, the ingredients… OMG. Everything is so juicy, full of flavour and just works together perfectly. What else can I say? It was seriously good.

There are loads of pizzas to choose from and also other things on the menu, but I didn’t try anything else because, well, I came for the pizza.

Actually, that’s not completely true — I did have a cannolo for dessert, and wow. Super crispy, the ricotta tasted really fresh, and the presentation was beautiful too. After that pizza I really didn’t need dessert… but I’m very glad I had it.

The service was friendly and very fast too, so overall there really wasn’t much to complain about.

There is one small detail though. In a place this modern and elegant, where so much attention goes into the presentation, serving the coffee in a plastic cup felt a little out of place. It’s a small thing, but exactly the kind of detail that could make the experience even better.

Anyway, pizza followed by cannolo… apparently being on a diet in Sicily is simply not an option.
